....................................................

..."She is just 18?" the nurse questioned in shock.

"Ji..." Ritesh replied, the sadness in his voice was so loud. His only daughter, whom he loved the most, was lying on a deathbed, fighting alone.

"Itni chhoti si umar mein suicide?" the nurse couldn't hold back her curiosity and asked.

"Kai baar kuch dard umar se bade ho jaate hain, aur sambhale nahi jaate." Ritesh replied as a tear escaped his eyes.

Their attention shifted when a doctor came running and asked, "Who is Adhira's father?"

Ritesh replied with a, "I am."

"Sir, she has lost a lot of blood and her vitals are not normal." The doctor said with a bit of hesitation, trying to keep his words soft to not hurt the child's parents.

"What can we do, doctor?" Ritesh asked in a worried tone.

"Sir, we can just wait and watch, because it seems that she was very depressed and didn't have any will to live. For now, we are giving her antidepressants to calm her nerves." Saying that, the doctor left.

"Ritu, you should go home and rest. Main yahan hoon, tum chinta mat karo." Ritesh said, giving her the car keys.

"Par mujhse nahi raha jayega, Aru ki chinta mein..." Ritu spoke in denial.

"Please, mere liye jaakar aaram kar lo."

On hearing Ritesh, Ritu left for home.

On reaching home, she saw a girl standing outside the gate, waiting.

Ritu tapped on her shoulder, and on seeing the girl, she broke down. Hugging her, she spoke, "Trisha... meri Aru..."

"Massi, kya hua Aru ko?" Trisha, who is Adhira's best friend, questioned with confusion and a hint of worry.

"Sh... she attempted suicide..." Ritu answered between her sobs.

"WHATT?? Nahi, meri Aru aisa nahi kar sakti, Massi!" Trisha's voice got stuck in her throat, as she knew her best friend was strong enough to handle herself.

"Aap pehle andar chaliye, Massi." She took Ritu inside the house.

"Massi, kyun kiya Aru ne?"

Ritu looked at Trisha and said, "Nahi pata beta... usne humse ek mahine se baat tak nahi ki hai. The last words that we heard from her were—ishq ka izhar karne gayi thi, khud ka maatam mana kar aa rahi hoon."

"Massi, you take rest. I will be back."

Trisha stood up and went to Adhira's room. She opened the door, her eyes blinking and widening to adjust to the darkness in the room. On entering, the first thing her hands searched for was the switchboard to turn on the light.

A small sigh escaped her mouth as brightness filled the room. Her gaze scanned the mess—but then it halted on a paper kept on the bed.

Stepping carefully through the broken vase, she walked towards the bed and picked up the paper. She opened it carefully, but the moment her eyes traced the words, her legs gave up and she collapsed onto the bed.

She read it again, this time not in her head, but softly aloud, trying to believe whether the words were real or just an illusion—

"Main khud se haar gayi, Papa... ab sehna nahi ho raha tha... sorry."

A tear escaped her eyes, and with the letter in her hand, she rushed outside.

"Where are you going, beta?" Ritu questioned.

"Hospital..." Trisha replied in a single word.

"What is that paper in your hand?"

Trisha looked at Ritu and replied, "Suicide note."

"Wh... what? Kya likha hai usme?"

"Massi, I will tell you everything... but first, I have questions for Adhira." Trisha replied with slight hesitation.

"I will accompany you to the hospital, let's go."

Ritu didn't question her further, as she knew that the bond these two shared was far beyond best friends.

On reaching the hospital, Trisha rushed inside, but Ritu took the lead, patting her shoulder.

"Calm down, Trishu... stay strong."

"Mujhe bahut zor se uss jhalli ko pitne ka mann kar raha hai, Massi..." Trisha couldn't hold back her tears.

When she saw Ritesh standing in front of the ICU, she lost control and ran towards him. Hugging him, she whispered, "Uncle... kyun kiya Aru ne yeh..."

"Teri hi behen hai, tu khud hi pooch lena." He patted her head. "Chal, ab rona band kar."

Ritu stepped aside, and wiping her tears, Trisha spoke, "Mujhe milna hai Aru se."

She lifted her hand holding the letter, which made Ritesh question her, "Yeh kya hai?"

"It's a suicide note... which she wrote thinking that one note will be enough for all the questions that we are going to ask her."

"Kya likha hai isme?"

He took the letter from Trisha's hand and read it.

It was enough—and too much—for him to handle. It hurt him to see his strong daughter losing herself. The one who used to win every time, the one who used to heal everyone, was now suffering from herself.

Ritesh didn't shed a tear even when his daughter suffered terrible abuse—but seeing her lose herself made him weak.

"Meri bachi... meri bachi ne itna kuch kaise seh liya, Ritu..."

"Uncle, she is very strong... mujhse bhi zyada... she can't lose! Hai na, Aunty? Aru ne mujhe jeena sikhaya... woh aisa nahi haar sakti..." Trisha said, trying her best to calm the situation.

Their attention shifted when a doctor came and announced, "Her vitals are a bit better than before, but the risk is still very high. One of you can go and meet her."

Trisha looked at Ritu and Ritesh, unsure who would go.

"Trishu, tu jaake mil kar aa." Ritu said.

"Massi, lekin—"

"Jaa na, Trishu... aur haan, achhe se daant lagana usse." Ritesh said, pushing her slightly towards the door.

Trisha walked slowly, trying to steady herself, trying to calm her heart.

Her hands pushed the door open—and seeing her bubbly friend lying lifelessly on the hospital bed broke her completely. Even after trying so hard, she couldn't control her tears.

She went near the bed and, without breaking her gaze from Adhira's face, sat on the chair beside her.

"Tere bina main kaise jeetungi, Aru?" she sobbed.

"Tune mujhe jeena sikhaya... when I lost everything, you were there with me, as if you are the soul of my body... why would you take my soul away from me, Aru? Why would you hurt yourself?"

Trisha placed her hand on Adhira's and whispered—

"I know you are listening to me... and now you are going to promise me to wake up very soon and give me a tight hug... okay?"..........
