The night was all dark, the sky was screaming with thunder as if something had been destroyed. It was raining very hard, as if the clouds were weeping for justice. The road was empty—the only thing that a person could see was a girl, walking all alone on that scary road as if she didn't fear anything, as if she didn't have anything to lose. But her lifeless walk was saying something else—it was speaking tabahi.
"Humne toh jab kaliyan maangi, kaanton ka haar mila
Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila."
She was humming this song, her hair all wet due to the rain. They were clinging to her body, as if a soul was stuck in them. With no expression on her face, she knocked on the door.
"Aa gayi beta?" her mother, Ritu Aggarwal, opened the door. But the smile that was lingering on her face was soon replaced by fear on seeing her daughter. "Kya hua beta?" (what happened, child?) she asked with concern. But Adhira entered without giving any reply and started walking towards her room.
"I am asking you something, reply to me Adhira!" this time, with a slightly raised voice, Ritu asked.
Adhira turned, facing her mother, and replied, "Ishq ka izhar karne gayi thi, khud ka maatam bana kar aa rahi hu." Her words were very clear, but her eyes were blurry with tears.
But even before her mother could react, her father asked from behind, "What did he do to you, Adhira?"
With a little smile on her face, she replied, "Woh sab jo nahi hona chahiye tha, Papa." (everything that shouldn't have happened)
"Main usse jaan se maar dunga!" (I will kill him) her father started walking past her, but stopped when she held his hand.
"No, Papa. Leave him. The least I can do is to leave him." And with that, she went into her room and locked herself.
"Meri bachi, Ritesh..." (my daughter, Ritesh) her mother started crying while hugging her husband.
"Main usse nahi chhodunga."
Adhira was lying on her bed, but she didn't cry.
"Bahut badi galti ho gayi mujhse. Jis insaan ko apna sab kuch dene ke liye tayyar thi, woh meri ek 'naa' ki bhi kadar nahi kar paya. Galat insaan se dil laga baithi main. Ab iss dil ko kaise samjhaungi? Ab main khud ko apna kaise banaungi?"
(I made a huge mistake. The person to whom I was ready to give my everything couldn't even respect my one 'no'. I gave my heart to the wrong person. Now how will I make this heart understand? How will I make myself mine again?)
A lot had happened with her today. The only issue is that some people cry and scream to relieve their pain—and she was completely silent.

ONE MONTH LATER
"It's been a month, woh apne kamre se bahar nahi aayi hai, Ritesh." Ritu, being very tense, said to her husband.
"Chinta toh mujhe bhi bahut ho rahi hai, lekin woh baat hi nahi karna chahti." Ritesh replied, taking a sip of his chai.
"Koi action liya uss ladke par?" Ritu questioned.
"We don't have any proof, and also the one who suffered is not taking any action, so we can't do anything." Ritesh stated, worry evident in his voice.
Their conversation was halted when the door of Adhira's room opened with a thud.
"Aru? Tu theek hai beta?" They stood and walked towards her.
But the situation was not as calm as it looked.
While passing them with a slight smile, Adhira collapsed into her father's arms—and in that moment, their eyes fell on her hand, from which a warm red liquid was oozing.
"Let's take her to the hospital!" her father rushed outside.
On reaching the hospital—
"She has lost a lot of blood," the nurse came and said.
"Theek toh ho jayegi na?" her mother asked, fear evident in her tone.
"Ji, she will be alright, but please tell her age."
"She is 18," Ritesh replied in a serious tone.
